A cold is a repiratory infection caused by one of hundreds
of possible viruses. Conventional medicines can neither treat
nor prevent the common cold. Furthermore, none of the over-the-counter
treatments can shorten a cold but they do provide significant
relief.
However,
Zinc in a lozenge from where the zinc is absorbed sublingually
(under the tougue) has been found to shorten the duration
of colds and flu, according to a significant body of research.
Sucking on zinc lozenges works by directly killing viruses
in the throat.
The typical
dosage is a lozenge containing 23mg of zinc taken every 3
hours at the earliest sign of a cold, with a maximum of 5
per day.
